The Liberi Foundation, founded in 2016 by Wilma Kaptijn, aims to provide quality education and improved health care to children and young adults in Zambia. The name “Liberi” is from the Latin word for “child” and is also associated with the concept of “freedom.”
The foundation is motivated by the opportunity to create its own special benefit in the areas of education and health. They are committed to providing children and young adults with additional opportunities in life through education and health care.
The Liberi Foundation team collaborates closely with a driven network in Zambia. Along with the team in Urk, Netherlands, they can be proud of what they achieved in recent years in the village of Kamimbi. They have created a positive impact on the lives of the local community through several projects and initiatives related to education and health care.
The Liberi Foundation board’s first priority was to ensure a well-functioning board with members who share the same passion. Next, they developed a solid vision and plan to achieve their goals.
To gain more insight into establishing successful projects in developing countries in the field of education, they chose to spend the first year working with five different foundations which all had education-related projects. It allowed for them to learn from one another and obtain a wider understanding of challenges as well as requirements when setting up these types of projects.
In 2017, the Liberi Foundation received a great opportunity of making a difference in the village of Kamimbi in Zambia. They discovered there was a high demand for a school, as government schools were difficult to reach and overcrowded due to long distances. Working in the region, they were able to move fast because of their good network.
Within the first year, the entity was established in Zambia, which included establishing a good board. The focus was initially on building a school. During the years of being active in Zambia, the organization managed to achieve a lot. However, a need to do more for the community started to arise.
The Liberi Foundation realizes that there is still much to do in Kamimbi and focuses on educational and health care projects. In order to finance these projects, the decision was made to raise funds. By doing so the foundation wants to contribute more meaningful support to the community in Kamimbi.
This proves that the Liberi Foundation is constantly moving forward by adapting to the needs and challenges of the community in which it operates. They are committed to make a sustainable impact and strive to improve both education and healthcare, to give locals better opportunities and a brighter future.
